[Tools] Universal Search

Your Way To Find Your Specific Data

One of the useful tools in the XrmToolBox library is Universal Search, developed by Michael Ochs, the tool allows users to search for specific text or values across all entities in Dynamics 365 organization.

How To Get Started?

After connecting to your organization and opening the tool, you will see the interface below

1. Simply select the entity types you want to search and enter some text to search.

   1. You can specify the kind of search you want, for example to perform a case sensitive.

2. Search by checking the Match Case checkbox.

   1. Keep in mind that you can also perform a wildcard search by including asterisks (*) in you query.

3. Click on the Search button and start viewing records being returned while the tool searches (3).

   1. Double click on a record to open it in your browser.

   2. You can cancel the operation by clicking on the Cancel button.

4. You can also see the progress of the search in the bottom right of the window(4)

Features

The tool is intelligent enough to recognize the type of value you enter into the search box. So, if you enter, for instance, 1234 it will recognize that the value is a number and will search number fields in the entities in your system as well as text fields. You can also search for GUIDs which are used in Dynamics as Identifiers for records.
